The short answer is:
YES!
Einstein said this was one of the fundamental questions you need to establish the answer to in your life: Is the universe friendly?
Of course, there are many who say the universe is friendly and/or imply that we can make it go for our wishes (e.g. "The Secret"). That is something they merely made up, though it is a more useful belief than thinking the universe is unfriendly.
But the universe is neither friendly nor unfriendly. It doesn't have any "conscious" "intention". It just exists.
It does work. It is a system that balances itself off. That is true, but it is not true that the universe is not random, that is, with regard to you, as this little teeny thing in this massive chaos relative to us. A storm on one side of the planet is balanced by another opposite somewhere else, but to us that somewhere else doesn't matter, as we are going to get rained on anyway. So, the universe is chaotic and random to us, though mostly we don't have to suffer as few extremes really hit us.
We get waves in our oceans and instead of cursing them, we can just surf them.
There are some very key principles about how the universe works. And the universe is, based on that, a beneficial universe, provided we take advantage of the principles and use them to get benefits for ourselves. The evidence is in how magnificently abundant our lives are and how we are, with few exceptions, very safe and fortunate. (It's a 99+% things, I think.)

A part of the process of seeing that it is a safe place lies in debunking the artificial threats of danger that we create. Get a full handle on this: Fear/Anxiety/Worry.
