THE PRINCIPLE OF BALANCE
PHYSIOLOGICAL, MUSCULOSKELETAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, THINKING ABILITY

Everything is harder when you are doing it out of balance.
It takes more energy.
And usually things get worse.

If my heart beat and/or my breathing is erratic and not rhythmic and smooth, my thinking ability (engagement) suffers.

The body seeks balance naturally, based on evolution (this worked so the mutated improved gene was passed on more).   Everything seeks balance, back to Homeostasis, where our body (and our mind, etc.) are high functioning.  When we are not high functioning (i.e. are out of balance and in low functioning) we will get signals - signals that are largely unpleasant - and/or our energy will be spent trying to get back in balance, pulling energy from other functions (so that they underfunction and/or malfunction).

We are upset, our body/mind tries to correct that as the threat must be solved.  Given the (supposed) "emergency", all peripheral unnecessary functions are shut down.  If it is for very long, all sorts of malfunctions occur, from cancer to ...

If I am weak in one part of my body, a bigger load must be taken by other parts of our body.

I must follow the realities of Homeostasis (Staying In High Functioning Balance) - Absolutely Essential To Living A Great Life!!!

YOU GET THE IDEA!

I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea!

You must focus in your planning on maintaining balance in every area of your life and in your life overall (at least from a stress reduction point of view).

Just this one practice (of focusing on and staying in balance) will reap huge rewards!

RESULTS OF IMBALANCE

Musculoskeletal - Other side tightens up to make up for the weakness of one side.  Become "off kilter", resulting in back pain and arthritis.

Physiological - The body tries to restore balance so it shuts down other functions and eventually malfunctions increase, from cancer to heart problems.  (See Homeostasis.)

Psychological - One thing is easier, so other qualities do not get used and are weak; less of a feeling of self efficacy and control over life, etc.; spend time worrying about a weakness takes away from other endeavors.

Thinking Ability - Being reactive without engaging brain perpetuates problems to keep on reacting to. Lack of training on how to think creates overuse of "quasi-thinking" that doesn't work and/or believing in magical thinking - for bad results!  And, in a strictly mechanical way, wrong breathing lowers your brain's thinking ability!

My Own Results

Not exhaustively listed, but one example:

Played tennis, so uneven load on one side.  Failure to correct pronation of foot caused knee problems.  All of this fit together to cause sciatica and back problems, which came up to throwing the balance off so that the neck got tight.

The body needs to have weight "stacked" up straight over load bearing bones, with strong "core" muscles to assure that the balance is kept and wear and tear is avoided.  (See Back Care.)
I write this because of the reminder, in a Healthy Back class where exercises showed undeniable weaknesses, that I must keep in balance or I'll suffer in some way.

Indeed, this is true for all of life.

These are some of the lessons I've learned (from my own personal "putting together" plus that of others who are specialists).

How much time should I spend on development?

How can I keep the weight and effort balanced in my movements, my body?

A basic law:   One part is out of balance, the other takes the load - and more wear and tear and degeneration and malfunctioning and...

If I am uncoordinated, my wiring goes wrong.  If I just work on the coordination, my whole brain works better.  (Simply by doing coordination focus on purpose your brain will automatically work better!)
