WHAT IS "GOOD"?
What is good? Compared to what?
Good is a value judgment comparing something to "bad".
And we made up the game of good and bad, first in order to distinguish "what works" and then we used the term to manipulate and control. You were dependent as a child on another person to survive so you shaped up (or tried to) whenever they said you were "bad", and we soon started to seek to be called "good."
HOW VALID IS IT?
There is no such thing as "good" or "bad", they are just "make-ups". They didn't exist before mankind existed, so they're just fabrications.
[The criteria of "what works" has existed forever. Things just work or they don't work (to achieve the desired result).]
Back into the cultural trap, we notice that we're also dealing with a very low form of Einstein's Theory Of Relativity? Everything is relative.
We tend to compare ourselves to that which we think is "good enough" - which is usually something beyond where we are (or it wouldn't be a problem!).
Therefore, it is a set up for us to fall short and to be unhappy.
Barksdale had it right when he said that there is no good or bad and that "we simply are doing the best we can at the time given the limits of our awareness at that time. We are not the problem (as we are capable humans); it is the lack of awareness that is the problem. If we want to create more feel good in our lives, we simply need to add more awareness."
WITHOUT GOOD AND BAD, WHAT ARE WE LEFT WITH?
If there were no such comparison, we would only seek to do that which serves us - and we wouldn't waste the effort on trying to be "good enough" or feeling bad about not being good enough - and we'd live magnificent lives!
This is one of the great secrets to having a great life!
HOWEVER, THE QUESTION IS "WHY AM I ACTUALLY GREAT?"
Well, we'll use the theory of relativity, since we compare ourselves relative to some unreachable and unhappy criteria.
To see how great we are, let's compare ourselves to other animals (or sometimes I use "caveman" as the base to compare to, as I marvel at how far we've come!).
Compared to other animals, I have incredible abilities and blessings:
I have the greatest computer in the universe.
I am incredibly intelligent
I am able to interpret subtle differences and meanings. Yes, I can learn to do it better, but I do have the basic ability.
I can learn relative complexities and an incredible amount. (Billions of bits of data! Complex concepts where alot of data is interrelated.)
I can think about thinking.
I can deeply experience.
Compared to a rock, I have such incredible capabilities and systems:
My body functions automatically, regulating, attacking invaders, etc., with this incredible system that digests food and produces energy.
I can move around remarkably well and do reaching and grasping functions.
I sense the light, touch, taste, emotions.
And tens of thousands (at least) other functions.
HOW DO I KEEP REMEMBERING THIS AND/OR NOTICING IT?
That is one of the functions and benefits of the proven-to-be-effective practice of Gratitude. See that section to add more great things we can do and to "see" what we've been blessed with. Read that section and do what is recommended!!!!
Of course, you'd remind yourself of it plus you might address any of those things that get in the way of it by using the affirmation process to fully put into place this belief that meets the criteria of truth and usefulness. (Read those linked sessions, redesigning some crummy beliefs and affirming the new ones until they're installed and automatic in our internal conversations.)
"I am actually great!"
"I have incredible abilities!"
"I have the greatest computer in the world!"
"I am incredibly intelligent!"
"I have the ability to create all I want in life - I am truly great!"
A LITTLE SIDE NOTE
Good: Derivation from Old English: god.
Being positive or desirable in nature. It is the most desirable thing in the universe to be a human being and to have all of its qualties and abilities.
Having the qualities that are desirable or distinguishing in a particular thing: As a human, I have qualities of experiencing, seeing with fine distinction, high thinking ability...
Serving the desired purpose or end; suitable: Being human enables wonderful experiences.
