THE PURPOSE OF COMMITMENT

"A person with half volition goes backwards and forwards, but makes no progress on even the smoothest of roads."
                                                             Thomas Carlyle

The purpose of commitment is to create the results you want in life.  If you want to be effective in life, you MUST use the power of commitment.

"Until one is committed, there is no progress..."

CLARITY AND FOCUS = POWER

The clarity and the focus offered by commitment creates a powerful force to get greater results and to live the life one dreams of.  Without it, we languish or do something more in the mediocre or not-quite-so-happy range.

Add this practice to your other "Power In Life" elements and you'll magnify your power to get what you want in life.

IN BLACK AND WHITE

Not commiting in writing results in no success and no clarity of action.

Commitments in your head are illusory and weak and ineffective.  Make them all in writing - and share them with another person for accountability (which is also one of the Power In Life elements).

Read, in the sidebar, "The Power Of Commitment", Declaration, by W.H. Murray, of the Scottish Himalayan Expedition.

Read also Kennedy's Man On The Moon Speech, where I've bolded and italicized what I believe you can add to your mission statement and the boldness of your commitment.

WHERE TO PUT THE AGREEMENTS FOR REVIEW

I would, for now, keep the two quotes above in the Reminders Notebook, where you should review them until they are fully integrated into your brain and are instantly recallable.  You could keep them in your LifePlan Notebook later.

The Power Of Commitment

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.

Declaration, by W.H. Murray, of the Scottish Himalayan Expedition
Does a commitment mean success?

No, but one who fully commits in life will fail or fall short far fewer times, such that one's "averages", includes one's failures will be in the highly successful range.

You see, humans are limited in their capacity and certainly cannot achieve perfection, so they will fail even if they are "100% committed".  Tolerance for having no guarantee but the maturity to do what works best in the long run WILL however lead to ultimate success.  (Of course, this excludes taking "catastrophic" risk, where there is no recovery!)
